Breakaway Media was established in 1998 in Tucson, Arizona by Glenn McCreedy, the company’s CEO and publisher. Originally founded to provide corporate sponsorship and video production services, Breakaway Media expanded its range of services in 2008 to publish eBooks and engage consumers directly via the Web.
Breakaway Media publishes several bestselling thrillers, mysteries, and suspense novels on the major digital publishing platforms. In 2011, Breakaway Media’s The Shop and the Laura Cardinal series of crime fiction thrillers (Darkness on the Edge of Town, Dark Side of the Moon, The Devil’s Hour) by J. Carson Black reached the top ten of all books and in multiple categories on Amazon’s bestseller lists.
Breakaway Media’s publication of J. Carson Black’s thriller The Shop sold more than 80,000 copies in 2011. The Shop was republished by Thomas & Mercer and that edition reached #1 among all books on the Amazon Kindle bestseller list in 2012, displacing The Hunger Games from that coveted ranking. In 2012, Breakaway Media sold option rights to Sony Pictures Television for J. Carson Black’s Laura Cardinal series of crime thrillers.
The company name comes from the sport of cycling. In cycling, a breakaway occurs when a cyclist or group of cyclists accelerates away from the pack and creates a gap as the lead is increased.
